For the year 2018, the vacancies for masters and doctorates of the Postgraduate Program in Comparative Studies of Portuguese Language Literature will also be announced.

The inscriptions for filling the vacancies of the Academics Master and Doctorate, for the 2018 academic year, in the Graduate Program of Compared Studies in Portuguese-language Literature, will be available From X to X 2017.

CONCERNING THE INSCRIPTION:

Holding an undergraduate degree is a basic requirement to subscribe in the Graduate Program of Compared Studies in Portuguese-language Literature. The selection process will mandatorily consist on a proficiency test on a foreign language, as well as an essay regarding the applicant’s specific knowledge, a résumé analysis and the analysis of the research project and its oral presentation by the applicant.  

By means of the present public notice, duly validated by the Graduation Commission (CPG), the Graduate Program of Compared Studies in Portuguese-language Literature details the systematic of its selection process.

The student that holds the title of Master and wishes to proceed in his/her academic studies, aiming for a vacancy for the Doctorate degree, must enroll on a new selection process, following the regulatory requirements.

The foreigner students who intend to study for a period that exceeds one year must present documentation proving that they have required the extension or renewal of their stay to the proper authorities, in the last month validity of the National Identity Document (RNE). The presentation of the Foreigner’s Identity Document (“Registro Nacional de Estrangeiro – RNE”) or documentation proving that a visa extension was required, containing the RNE number, is a prerequisite for the foreigner student’s enrollment in the Program.

-Documents required: all the forms and the weblink to pay the application fee via electronic pay order are available at http://dlcv.fflch.usp.br/editais_dlcv.

ATTENTION: The candidate who does not submit all the required documentation will have his/her application denied. The submission will be made exclusively through a WEB form, and the documentation must be digitalized in PDF files (maximum size of 3000 Kb).

1. Application form properly completed.

2. Undergraduation certificate: copy of the University degree (front and back in the same file) or Undergaduation certificate of completion. The candidate who holds a degree in short-time courses or in free courses will not have the right to subscribe in the selective process. The candidate who has not completed his/her Undergaduation degree must submit a Commitment Term (available at http://www.pos.fflch.usp.br/node/317) and present a verifying document stating the degree achievement, that must be presented until the latter date indicated in the referred term, i.e. the last day intended for the enrollment of FFLCH/USP new students, following the academic calendar. The disobedience of this requirement will lead to the enrollment automatic cancellation.

3. Academic record containing the date of the degree achievement.

4. LATTES Résumé (without proof); for foreigners, a Résumé.

5. RG – General Registration (other documents will not be accepted); for foreigners: RNE or Passport.

6. CPF - Natural Person Registration.

7. Master degree certificate for Doctoral inscriptions of applicants who have not earned their degrees in USP (In cases when the oral defense is still going to occur, the applicant must fill the Master’s Term of Commitment – available at http://www.pos.fflch.usp.br/node/317).

9. Payment of the selection process’ application fee.

CONCERNING THE SELECTION:

Depending on the availability of a researcher advisor and according to the number of available vacancies stated in the selection process’ public notice, the enrollment on the Program will be permitted for candidates who have obtained a score equal or superior of 6 (six) for the Master degree and 7 (seven) for the Doctor degree, considering a scale from 1 to 10. The final score will be formed by three scores: score of the specific test (double value); score of the project analysis (single value); score of the résumé analysis (single value), all of them considering the scale from 1 to 10.

a) Proficiency in a Foreign Language:

The exam of proficiency in a foreign language will be applied by the Language Canter – LETRAS/FFLCH - http://clinguas.fflch.usp.br/node/1272.

The applicants for the Doctoral degree who hold a Master’s degree must be submitted to a proficiency test in a different foreign language from the one chosen for the proficiency test during the Master’s selection process.

Degrees or certificates in proficiency accepted for the enrollment in the Program:

To testify the proficiency in English Language, the Program accepts the certificates of the following institutions: University of Cambridge (CPE), with the “pass grade C” as the minimal score, International English Language Test (IELTS), with the score equals or superior of 6,0; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with the minimum score of 213 points for the Computer-Based Test (CBT), 550 points for the Paper-Based Test or 80 points for the Internet-Based Test (IBT);

To testify the proficiency in Spanish Language, the Program accepts the certificates CELU and DELE (Cervantes Institute), considering the intermediary level as the minimum score;

To testify the proficiency in French Language, the Program accepts the certificate of the France’s Education Ministry (DALF), with the minimal score between 500 and 699 points;

To testify the proficiency in Italian Language it is accepted the CILS, with a score equal or superior of CILS 3 C1;

To testify the proficiency in German Language, the Program accepts the Groβes Deutsches Sprachdiplom and the Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom, of the Goethe Institute, with the “approved” mention as minimal;

The Program also accepts the certifications in which the applicant has obtained the following levels of the European Common Framework of Reference of the European Council: C1 and C2.

To testify the proficiency in Portuguese Language, it is accepted the Brazil’s Ministry of Education certificate (CELPE-Bras), with approval in the Advanced level.

The expiration dates determined by the institution responsible for the issue of the certificates is going to be respected.

The foreign candidate must also testify proficiency in Portuguese, by means of an exam applied during the selection process, in addition to the foreign language proficiency exam.

ATTENTION: If the score obtained in the proficiency test on a foreign language is below the minimal score required (5,0), the applicant is considered disqualified from the selection process and his/her application documentation will be deleted.

b) Specific test:

The applicants that are subscribed in the selection process for admission in the degrees of the Graduate Program of Compared Studies in Portuguese-language Literature and approved in the test(s) of proficiency in a foreign language must be submitted to a specific test, set to be applied by the Program’s Admissions Selection Committee, in October 14th 2016, from 2 to 5 p.m., in the School of Letter’s Building, in a class to be announced on September 29th 2016, by the DLCV’s Secretary of Graduation (http://dlcv.fflch.usp.br/node/694).    

a) The score obtained in the test can dismiss the applicant if the score obtained is below 6,0 for the Master degree and 7,0 for the Doctoral degree. The test, held during three hours and without access to the bibliography of reference, consists on answering one question, between two that are presented; b) The test aims to evaluate the applicants’ knowledge in the basic bibliography of the course, indicated in a list below, as well as [and most of all] his/her capacity to articulate theoretical and critical elements present in texts also indicated below; c) The score obtained in the test is valid only for the year in which it is made.

c) Research Project:

The presentation of a Research Project is an indispensable requirement for she selections of the applicants. The Research Project should contain the following items: title, abstract, framing of the theme and of the object chosen for the thesis or dissertation; objectives of the research; theme’s pertinence justification, hypothesis, theoretical and methodological basis in which the research is based; general investigation plan; schedule of the activities set to be developed; bibliography concerning the thesis or dissertation’s theme. THE RESEARCH PROJECT OF THE APPLICANT MUST MANDATORILY BE RELATED TO THE RESEARCH PROJECT OF THE INTENDED ADVISOR.

d) Argumentation of the Research Project and Interview:

Once approved in the specific test, the applicants of the selection process must be submitted to an oral argumentation of his/her Research Project, as well as to an interview. The place and time of the oral argumentation will be informed in the day of the specific test.
